Preply English tutors
English is the busiest category on Preply, and the practical consequence is choice: almost every tutor you shortlist will have a competitor at a similar rate. Nobody publishes how many English tutors are live at any moment, ourselves included, so treat the count you see on a search page as a snapshot rather than a figure worth comparing.
English tutor pool
The English pool splits by goal more than by anything else. Exam preparation is its own world, with IELTS, TOEFL and Cambridge specialists who teach to a rubric and a deadline. Business English is a second: meetings, email register, presenting. Accent coaching is a third, and it is the one where a tutor's own accent matters more than their teaching certificate, because you are trying to sound like them. Filter by which of those you actually want before you filter by price, or you will end up comparing tutors who are not doing the same job. Cost
Preply publishes one platform-wide band, $3 to $40 and above an hour, and does not break it out by language, so that is the figure to plan against here too. What English changes is where inside the band you land: conversation practice is available at the bottom of it, while an exam specialist working to a test date sits near the top. Budget for the 18% one-time platform fee on your first lesson with each tutor as well, which is the part that makes auditioning four of them cost real money.

Because demand is highest here, exam-prep specialists (IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge) tend to sit at the upper end of Preply's $3-$40+/hr range, while general conversation practice is available across the full price band.
