Preply Reviews

Preply tutors: how selection works

A Preply tutor is an independent instructor who sets their own rate, schedule and teaching style. The platform's job is to help you filter and compare them, not to assign you one.

How to find a tutor

Search filters by language, price range, availability and specialty (exam prep, business language, conversation practice). Tutor profiles show video introductions, reviews from past students, and their response rate, which is the closest thing Preply has to a vetting badge beyond the reviews themselves.

Switching tutors

There is no penalty structure for trying a different tutor. Each new tutor you book with counts as a separate first lesson, which means the one-time platform fee applies again. That's the real cost of switching, not a formal fee for changing your mind.

Vetting and quality

Preply does not publish a qualification tier the way italki labels professional against community teachers, so the profile is what you have to read. Look at the video introduction, the review count rather than only the score, and whether the reviews name specific things the tutor did. Preply's own Trustpilot page runs to more than 25,000 reviews and the praise in it is overwhelmingly for individual tutors rather than the platform, which tells you where the quality actually sits.
