Switching Preply tutors
There's no formal "switch tutor" process to approve. You simply book a lesson with a different tutor through search, the same way you booked your first one.
Steps to switch
- Search for a new tutor the same way you found your first one.
- Book a lesson with them; this counts as a first lesson.
- Cancel the old subscription before its next billing date.
The real cost of switching
Because Preply's one-time platform fee applies per new tutor, not per account, switching tutors means paying that fee again on your first lesson with the new one. It's not a penalty, just how the fee structure works.
01
Does switching tutors cost extra?
Yes. Preply's platform fee is 18% and its own help centre describes it as applying per new tutor rather than per account, so your first lesson with a new tutor carries it again. On a $20 lesson that is $3.60, once.
02
Do you have to tell your old tutor?
There is no approval step and no form to fill in. You book with someone else exactly the way you booked the first time. Messaging the tutor you are leaving is a courtesy rather than a requirement.
03
What happens to hours you have already paid for?
Your paid hours sit on your account rather than with one particular tutor, so they carry over to whoever you book next. The 18% fee is the only thing that lands a second time.
